Marianne Barden passed away in 2003 following a battle with cancer. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends and those she touched in the community. Marianne left behind a legacy of love, which she demonstrated in the way she lived her life and her selfless care of others. She possessed a special gift of love for the developmentally disabled, nurtured by her own family experiences. She exhibited an unusual connection and understanding with these special individuals. She loved them as they were, and they loved her in return.
As a tribute to her we introduce Marianne's House, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization which will continue Marianne Barden’s legacy of care for the developmentally disabled. We are Hope. Hope for the families, care providers and the developmentally disabled adults.
Our research has confirmed that the need for Marianne's House is huge and immediate. Without Marianne's House, the care provider can put their loved one in a nursing home, group home, assisted living facility or supervised living even though most of these are meant for seniors. Because we advocate richer independent living for adults with developmental disabilities, our facility’s program consists of pre-vocational, recreational and social activities.
This will encourage community access and cross-generational blending. Currently, most in-home care providers have limited opportunities for outside activities for the developmentally disabled or breaks for self-care. Where can they turn for help?
Marianne's House is the answer.
